West Metro Second Alarm
On December 10th, 2018 around 23:25 West Metro Fire Rescue was alerted to a structure fire in the 4700 block of S. Taft St. in Friendly Hills. JeffCom received multiple 911 calls of explosions, and callers reporting the back of the house is fully involved. Sam 2 arrived on scene with a large working fire, with two housed involved and striking a 2nd alarm. Engine 12 arrived to heavy fire from a 2-story single family, on the blitzfire, and hand-jacked a supply line, with Medic 12 assisting with securing the water supply. Medic 10 arrived and assisted Medic 12 with a primary search, and Rescue 10 pulled a 2nd line off Engine 12 for fire attack. The fire was called defensive at 23:34, with propane tanks exploding. District 3 arrived with command on the Alpha-Bravo corner in the defensive strategy. Engine 11 secured a second supply line, and Tower 8 pulled a 2nd line off Engine 11. Crews worked heavy fire in the back and sides of the house, and an RV on the side of the structure also was on fire. Crews also worked structure protection with the exposure next door, and checked for extension in a garage which checked clear. Medic 10 completed the primary search with an all clear, and reassigned as Medical group, and Engine 13 arrived as RIT. Crews got the fire under control at 23:52 and started an extended overhaul before going in service. A rekindle was called after 03:00 on December 11th, 2018 with fire showing in the chimney, and crews got a quick knock on the fire, and the scene was put under a fire watch. The fire is under investigation with no reported injuries.
