Arvada Chimney Fire

At 20:45 on March 2nd, 2019 Arvada Fire Protection District was dispatched to a structure fire in the area of W. 59th Ave. and Kipling Pkwy. JeffCom received multiple calls reporting flames from the roof. Engine 51 was first on scene and reported a working structure fire in a chimney, pulled a 1 ¾ line for offensive attack and established their own water supply. Battalion 52 arrived on scene and assumed command. Tower 56 set up operations for their aerial ladder to reach the chimney. Medic 56 reported a dog in one of the units, Engine 51 found a fire on the interior in a fireplace, and began extinguishing it. An all clear was given for animal control to enter the unit and take the dog out, and he fire was declared out at 21:03. Engine 51 and Tower 56 remained on scene for overall operations and to monitor any hotspots in the chimney. Crews worked outside with temperatures in the single digits and heavily snowing. No reported injuries and the cause is under investigation.
