Around 12:30 on June 21st, 2019 Denver Fire Department was alerted to a possible structure fire at 17th St. & Arapahoe St. District advised that the call will be a assist to Xcel Energy with an electrical fire that is underneath the street. Crews arrived to smoke showing from several manhole covers, and the area was closed off due to a electrical charge being dispersed, and crews started an investigation of the scene. Xcel reported that a contractor, not an Xcel employee was operating a jackhammer underground when a electric line was hit. Crews were on scene for several hours and went into service after 16:30. One worker was reported injured, and transported to a local hospital.
