At 08:30 on April 20th, 2019 Grand Junction Fire Department was dispatched from the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center to an open burn that had grown out of control in the 800 block of 24 1/2 Rd. Strong erratic winds pushed the fire to a slash pile which ignited trees growing along a canal on the West side of the property. Crews from GJFD were able to draft water from the canal to spray high volumes of water onto the slash pile from Engine 2’s deck gun. Crews are still on scene ensuring that the fire is completely extinguished and will not spread to nearby homes.  The fire covered approximately 1 1/2 acres, there are no known injuries.

Grand Junction: Battalion 1, Engine 2, Engine 5, Truck 3, Brush 4 & Brush 5
