West Metro Structure Fire

At 19:34 on January 1st, 2019 JeffCom dispatched out West Metro Fire Rescue to a reported structure fire in the 9400 block of W. Utah Pl. at S. Hoyt St. with possible parties trapped. District 2 and Tower 8 arrived on scene to a 2-story multi-family townhouse with nothing showing in the offensive strategy, and command post on the Alpha-Bravo side. Tower 8 made entry to the fire unit, with 1 3/4 line to the front door. Crews found a working fire in the Alpha side with flames through the 2nd-story window, and started fire attack. Engine 8 secured a water supply to Tower 8, and pulled a second line in. Crews rescued one victim to the front with Medic 7 to assist. Command requested a additional medic to scene, and District 1 as safety. Rescue 10 assigned for primary search, Medic 10 as medical, Engine 4 as RIT and Engine 3 assigned to assist Tower 8 and Engine 8 with fire attack. Crews were able to rescue a family dog and cat and the fire was put under control at 20:00. The fire was contained to the bedroom only, with smoke damage throughout the unit. One patient was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries. Three people were displaced by the fire, and investigators believe that the fire was caused by an electrical heater. Crews worked the fire in single digit temperatures.
