Lakewood Duplex Fire

At 15:43 on December 19th, 2019 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a stand-by for Lakewood Police Department on a possible barricaded subject inside a duplex in the 2400 block of Youngfield St. Lakewood. Engine 5 and Medic 5 staged on scene, and around 17:30 agents reported fire and smoke coming form the structure, with agents entering the duplex they found a suspect armed with a weapon and advanced toward them when shots were fired. The suspect was transported by Medic 5 to a local hospital and later was pronounced dead. Engine 5 advised for a full structure fire response with smoke showing from the front door of a one-story single-family duplex, and pulled pulled a 1 3/4 line in for fire attack in the offensive strategy. Tower 2 arrived and secured the water supply with Engine 5, Engine 2 assigned as RIT and secured the utilities. Engine 6 assisted with fire attack, Engine 7 searched the Delta exposure and Medic 4 assigned as Medical. District 1 arrived and assumed the command on the Alpha side with crews reporting water on the fire in the basement. Crews reported fire out at 17:43 and started an extensive overhaul and Engine 7 set-up decon ops. Jeffco Critical incident response team responded for the investigation of the shooting and the fire cause is under investigation by West Metro. It was reported that 10 Lakewood Police agents were treated on scene with smoke inhalation. Additional information was provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
