Loveland Airport Exercise

On October 1st, 2019 Loveland Fire Rescue Authority participated in a full-scale emergency exercise at the Northern Colorado Regional Airport. The exercise was intended to gauge the response from local authorities to a simulated commercial aircraft incident and fire at the airport. Loveland Fire Rescue Authority crews were joined by crews from Poudre Fire Authority, Windsor-Severance Fire Protection District, Thompson Valley EMS, Loveland Police Department, and airport staff and businesses. A couple dozen volunteer actors were used to provided realistic aircraft passengers that were already out of the simulated burning aircraft prior to the arrival of first responders. Responders then had to round up the passengers, triage, and transport victims and passengers in addition to dealing with the fire and other hazards associated with the aircraft. After the exercise all participants to part in the after action review to provide feedback on what went well, and things that need improvement.
