2nd Alarm Apartment Fire

At 23:42 on May 30th, 2019 Denver Fire Department was dispatched to a fire investigation with a possible fire in the closet in the 1500 block of N. Grant St. in North Capital Hill. While en route dispatch upgraded the call to a multi-family structure fire. Truck 8 arrived to 5-story apartment building with a working fire. Engine 8 secured a water supply at Colfax Ave. & Grant St. and laid in a 3″ supply line to the middle of the building on the Alpha side. Chief 2 arrived and assumed command with heavy fire showing from the 3rd floor window, and requested a second alarm. Engine 8 pulled a 1 ¾” handline through the stairway door on the Alpha side, through the middle of the building to the third floor. Tower 1 set-up on the Alpha side, Engine 1 secured a water supply to Engine 8, and Engine 3 laid in from a separate hydrant to the alley. Engine 6 arrived and assigned as RIT. Crews were able to get the fire out and under control. Three patients were transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and several others were treated on scene and released.
