Westminster West 90th Ave Fire

On October 20th, 2019 at approximately 20:30 Westminster Communications Center dispatched Westminster Fire Department to a vegetation/structure fire in the area of W. 90th Ave. and Pierce St. 911 callers reported flames, burning vegetation, and fire igniting a nearby carport. Engine 3 was first on scene and reported vegetation on fire with a carport of the nearby apartments on N. Vance St. showing heavy fire, established their own water supply and pulled an 1 3/4 line for fire attack. Engine 5 arrived and established their water supply and pulled another line for attack. Battalion 1 arrived on scene and assumed command, and requested from dispatch to contact Burlington Northern & Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway to cease train operations in the area. Truck 2 arrived and established their own water supply and pulled an additional line for fire fighting operations. The fire was put under control around 21:00. Crews then remained on scene checking several carports for hot spots. Several witnesses reported a loud explosion in the area before seeing flames. One person was taken into custody in relation to the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
