Arvada Apartment Fire

At 19:02 on February 27th, 2020 Arvada Fire Protection District with auto-aid from West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire in the 5900 block of Pierce St. Battalion 52 arrived to a three-story apartment building with working fire in the offensive strategy and in command. Engine 51 arrived and established their own water supply, pulled a line in to Division 2 Alpha side with Medic 51 for fire attack, and Truck 54 assigned to primary search. Crews found active fire spreading to Division 3 from a window on Division 2 and command advised to move up Engine 53 (Ghost) to the scene. Engine 16 & Medic 16 arrived and started search of Division 3, and Tower 56 pulled a line off Engine 51 to the Delta side with a transitional fire attack. District 1 arrived and assigned to the Charlie Division, and Arvada Police officers reported a patient needing medical on Pierce St. (unrelated to the fire) and command requested 2 additional medics to the scene. Medic 55 arrived and started patient care and Medic 56 assigned as medical group. Engine 53 arrived and assisted with search on Division 2 with Engine 55. Crews rescued one family cat and the fire was put out at 19:30. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Two cats were found deceased during the investigation, no other injuries were reported. Working smoke alarms notified the residents, giving them adequate time to evacuate the building. 12 units were displaced due to utilities being turned off. The majority of the damage was confined to one apartment. American Red Cross provided assistance to the displaced residents. Additional information provided by Arvada Fire Protection District.
