Castle Pines Interface Fire
South Metro Interface Fire
On August 12th, 2020 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a vegetation fire near the southbound Castle Pines on ramp along Interstate 25. Multiple callers stated the fire was growing quickly, spreading to the west up the hill and threatening an apartment complex nearby. Battalion Chief 4 upgraded the incident to a large brush fire and wildland interface fire, adding more units to the call. Crews arrived on scene and split up into divisions – with some attacking the fire from the highway and others working on structure protection at the apartments. Some apartment residents were asked to evacuate for precautionary measures. Firefighters were able to gain control of the fire near the apartment complex, but continued fire attack closer to I-25 putting out hot spots in the scrub oak on the hillside. Once the fire was under control, residents were allowed back into their homes. The fire did not damage any structures and no injuries occurred. SMFR Fire Investigators determined the fire was caused by a blown out tire from a vehicle traveling SB on I-25. Additional information provided by South Metro Fire Rescue
