South Adams Landfill Fire

At 15:37 on February 20th, 2020 South Adams County Fire Department responded to a possible outside fire near E. 88th Ave. & Tower Rd. Truck 28 advised that smoke showing from the station and Bureau 23 had visible flames from E. 96th Ave. & Tower Rd. and the call was upgraded to a working structure fire. Truck 28 arrived to 19260 E. 88th Ave. with a working rubbish fire and requested a full working fire response. Crews determined the fire was a pool of petroleum based liquid and fire reached a nearby shed and a few construction trucks on the landfill property. Fire caused a large amount of black smoke and Commerce City Police Department closed E. 96th Ave. westbound of E-470 during the fire operations. The fire was put out and no report of injuries or damage to other structures. Additional information provided by South Adams County Fire Department
