Jefferson County Basement Fire
On December 11th, 2020 at 18:40 South Metro Fire Rescue and West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a house fire in the 7100 block of S. Depew St. in unincorporated Jefferson County. Initial reports stated someone was inside the house lighting the basement on fire. When Engine 13 arrived on scene, they confirmed the fire in the basement and immediately began stretching an 1 3/4 hose line to the structure for fire attack. Crews were able to get one person out of the basement. South Metro assessed that person and took them to the hospital going emergent. Firefighters were able to get water on the fire in the basement quickly. Other crews joined in to check for extension, do overhaul work and to ventilate the house. Crews located one cat in the house and gave it oxygen. Crews also found a dog inside and were able to get it out of the home. Both animals were reunited with their owner. Personnel remained on scene into the late evening. Both South Metro and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating this incident.
