Jefferson County West Maplewood Drive Fire
Jefferson County House Fire
At 16:10 on December 26th, 2020 South Metro Fire Rescue and West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a house fire on W. Maplewood Dr. in unincorporated Jefferson County. A large black plume of smoke on scene could be seen from miles away. When Battalion Chief 1 arrived, he found heavy fire conditions in the garage extending to two vehicles parked in the driveway and threatening the rest of the home. Crews from South Metro Medic 13 and Engine 13 along with West Metro Engine 12 immediately began fire attack with a 2 1/2 hose line. Because of the large amount of fire and radiant heat coming from the garage, a house next door began smoking. Firefighters put water on the home to cool the structure down. As crews continued fire suppression, smoke began showing from the attic space. Firefighters used hooks to pull ceiling and gain access into the wall spaces in order to check for extension and gain control of the fire. Luckily both people in the home at the time of the fire evacuated safely with their dog and crews rescued a pet snake from the basement. One South Metro firefighter sustained minor injuries on scene and was evaluated. SMFR Fire Investigators determined the cause was accidental due to an electrical malfunction.
