On January 13th, 2020 around 13:45 Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office ESB was dispatched to a trailer of hay on fire near mile marker 80 on Hwy. 96 east of Boone. Due to high winds, potential for spread to adjacent vegetation, and the need for water, mutual aid was requested from several agencies. Crews arrived to find a trailer stacked with multiple rolls of hay actively burning deep in the bales. The request was made for CDOT to bring in a front end loader to help remove the hay bales so that the fire could be extinguished. Hwy. 96 was shut down both eastbound and westbound during the duration of the fire. The highway was opened back up at 18:00 and crews will remain on scene over night watching for hot spots and mopping up. Additional information provided by Code 4 Photography
