9/11 Memorial Dedication Ceremony

The Arvada Fire Protection District held their 9/11 Memorial Dedication Ceremony at Station 2, 5250 Oak St. on August 7th, 2021. The community came out and observe the new memorial statue “Moments in Silence” which is dedicated to FDNY firefighter Nicholas J. Giordano. Giordano is a Vietnam Army Veteran from 1969-1970, Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) Firefighter for 28 years of proud service before retiring in 2002. He was assigned to Rescue 3 for 18 years, FDNY Certified Instructor and Division of Training Technical Rescue Training Operations. He also helped as an instructor at the Arvada Auto-X training for 10 years. Speakers at the ceremony were Arvada Fire Captain Donny Varra, Arvada Fire Chaplin Dave Cannon, Arvada Fire Captain Mike Kulp, CPFF Honor Guard / Arvada Fire Bert Brooks, Arvada Fire Chief Mike Piper, and Arvada Fire Board member Bob Loveridge. Therese Vogt, is the artist that created the sculpture, a Jeffcom dispatcher. The piece of steel is from the Twin Towers “Never Forget”.  The United States Honor Flag was also part of the ceremony. Other Arvada Fire Department board members, Fairmount Fire Protection District, Arvada Police Department, Wheat Ridge Police Department and others were also on hand for the ceremony.
