On December 10th, 2021 at approximately 07:30 South Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to a rollover accident on the westbound C-470 offramp at S. Santa Fe Dr. in Douglas County. A tanker truck, carrying 4,000 gallons of fuel exited C-470, lost control on the slick road and rolled onto its right side. The first arriving unit confirmed the tanker was leaking and that the fuel was running downhill towards a storm drain. Hazardous material teams from South Metro and the Colorado State Patrol were called to the scene to assist. Crews were on scene about six hours transferring the remaining fuel to another tanker, investigating the crash and cleaning up the scene. Firefighters and State Troopers also washed off two ducks who were found contaminated with diesel fuel. A private environment clean up crew was brought in to clean up the storm drain. No injuries reported.
