West Metro Roof Fire

At 11:25 on December 15th, 2021 during a heavy wind storm hitting the metro area and several structure fires being dispatched for the district West Metro Fire Rescue with auto-aid from Arvada Fire Protection District responded to a possible commercial structure fire at the Arc Thrift Store, 6791 W. Colfax Ave. in Lakewood. Jeffcom advised units enroute that the roof was on fire from the 911 caller. Engine 1 arrived to a large retail structure with nothing showing and started the investigation. Crews found a electrical fire on the roof with hazards including a broken gas line, and the call was upgraded to a confirmed working structure fire with a wind driven air conditioner on fire. Tower 2 set-up for roof ops, and District 1 assumed command on the Alpha side in the offensive strategy. Engine 51 and Engine 8 assisted crews on the roof with fire attack, and Engine 16 assigned as RIT. Rescue 10 started primary search with and Engine 17. Medic 13 arrived and assigned as medical. The wind picked up loose roofing material that upended the rooftop HVAC system, which knocked the gas line loose. There was moderate fire and water damage to the building. No injuries were reported.
