Lakewood Zang Street Apartment Fire
West Metro Apartment Fire
At 17:34 on July 26th, 2021 JeffCom dispatched West Metro Fire Rescue with auto-aid from Arvada Fire Protection District to a confirmed structure fire in the 200 block of Zang St. in Lakewood with multiple calls. Engine 6 arrived to a three-story apartment complex, with flames from the 3rd story balcony, and secured their own water supply and laid in and pulled a line for fire attack and life safety. Engine 4 and pulled a line for fire attack and search with Medic 4. Engine 3 arrived and assisted with fire attack and search with Medic 3. District 2 arrived and took command in the offensive strategy, and assigned Tower 8 with primary search on the 3rd floor, and check for extension into the attic and Engine 2 as RIT. Command requested an additional engine and medic to the scene. Crews got the fire under control and worked overhaul for several hours with hot spots and the investigation. The fire originated in bushes outside of the building, climbed up the side and into the eaves where it burned through the roof. Firefighters rescued one cat that was reunited with its owner.
