Lower Valley House Fire

At 18:03 on November 9th, 2021 Lower Valley Fire District was advised of a reported structure fire in the 2100 block of K 1/2 Rd. for a chimney that exploded, was on fire, and a house filling with smoke. Engine 31 arrived at a two-story, single-family residence with fire from the roof and stretched a line for fire attack in the offensive strategy, declaring a working fire. Engine 31 crew made fire attack and primary search which proved negative. Tender 32 arrived on scene, staged apparatus on 21 3/4 Rd. and took personnel up to assist. Engine 32 arrived on scene and assisted with fire attack. A request for a mutual aid engine company from Grand Junction Fire Department was requested. Engine 3 arrived on the scene was assigned ventilation on the Bravo side for the gable vent. Crews continued to chase fire through the attic and experience a compromised roof above the garage when the fire self-vented through the roof. Water supply was an issue and an additional tender from Lower Valley was dispatched to the scene to assist with tender shuttles. Tender 31 arrived on scene staged behind Engine 3. Approximately 7,000-gallons of water was utilized to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported, and the fire is under investigation. A Mesa County Sheriff deputy was dispatched to the scene to assist with Red Cross for the homeowners.
