On September 11th, 2021 several agencies, community members, and veterans gathered at the Center for American Values on the Pueblo Riverwalk to commemorate and remember the many lives lost in the tragic events that took place 20 years ago at the World Trade Center. A combined honor guard between Pueblo Police Department and the Pueblo Fire Department placed the colors and stood guard during the memorial. Taps was played and wreaths were laid by each agency. The fire department honor guard conducted their ringing of the bell ceremony and the veterans ritual team conducted a 21 gun salute. After the ceremony had concluded a walk of silence was led by the agency representatives and everyone in attendance was given a flower to set at the 9/11 memorial as they passed and ended their walk. Following the walk several local firefighters and PCC fire science students completed a stair climb to commemorate the 110 stories of the World Trade Center buildings. Agencies that were on hand for the memorial were: Pueblo Police Department, Pueblo Fire Department, Pueblo Rural Fire Protection District, Pueblo West Fire Department, American Medical Response, Pueblo County Sheriff, and Colorado State Patrol.
