The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service conducted a prescribed burn at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge in Commerce City on April 5th, 2021. The  USFWS is burning about 875 acres to assist with the growth of native vegetation, reduce litter, control weeds and improve habitat for wildlife.  The burn also served as an excellent training opportunity for local departments as they prepare for the summer fire season. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Wildland Fire Management, Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, Denver Fire Department, Douglas County Emergency Management, South Adams County Fire Department and Westminster Fire Department participated in the operation.
