West Metro Duplex Fire

At 09:12 on March 19th, 2021 West Metro Fire Rescue and Arvada Fire Protection District responded to the 3500 block of Chase St. in Wheat Ridge on a reported structure fire. JeffCom advised that upstairs bedroom on fire with animals trapped inside. Engine 16 arrived to a two-story structure with heavy smoke showing and a working fire with smoke from the roof, pulled 1 3/4 for fire attack with Medic 16 and Engine 17 secured the water supply to Engine 16. District 1 arrived and assumed command on the Alpha side. Engine 1 pulled a 2nd line from Engine 16, Rescue 52 assigned as search and Tower 2 as RIT. All occupants were able to get out of the residents, except for pet snake. Firefighters recovered the snake, still in its terrarium and appeared to be ok. Crews contained the fire to the room of origin on the second floor. The fire appears to be accidental and the cause is under investigation. ROTC, West Metro’s arson dog, was on scene assisting in the investigation. American Red Cross was requested for assistance. Additional information provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
