West Metro Apartment Fire

At 06:28 on December 8th, 2021 West Metro Fire Rescue with auto-aid from Arvada Fire Protection District responded to the 4600 block of Otis St.. in Wheat Ridge on a reported structure fire. JeffCom advised of reports of heavy smoke from the basement laundry room. Engine 16 arrived to a single-story multi-family structure with smoke showing from the eves, pulled 1 3/4 for fire attack in the offensive mode. After a 360, Engine 16 reported heavy smoke from the Charlie side basement. Engine 17 arrived and pulled a 2nd line to the Charlie side and assisted with fire attack and search. Engine 51 secured the water supply, and Battalion 51 arrived and assumed command. Medic 51 assigned as medical, Truck 54 as primary search and Engine 1 to the Charlie side to assist with the fire attack. Tower 2 arrived and assigned utilities and ventilation. The fire was changed to a defensive strategy for a short time, and command requested additional engine and truck to the scene. The fire was out under control at 07:50, and crews started an extensive overhaul. Smoke damage to significant portion of building, and five units uninhabitable. Two residents were evaluated for smoke inhalation, and the American Red Cross was requested for assistance. Additional information provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
