Colorado Springs HazMat Incident
Colorado Springs Fuel Leak
At approximately 10:19 on December 27th, 2023 the Colorado Springs Public Safety Communications Center dispatched the Colorado Springs Fire Department to the area of S. Tejon St. and southbound I-25 for a Hazmat incident. Dispatch advised all units a semi truck was leaking fuel and the truck was on the shoulder of I-25. Engine 3 arrived on scene, advised a fuel line had broken off from the driver side saddle tank and needed the Colorado Springs Police Department for traffic control. Engine 3 established incident command and updated approximately 10 gallons of diesel fuel had spilled on to the roadway. While waiting for Hazmat 14 to arrive, Engine 3 set up a tank trap to prevent the fuel from going into a nearby storm grate. Once the Colorado Springs Police Department arrived on scene, they requested the aide of CDOT’s Safety Patrol to assist with traffic control. Once HazMat 14 arrived, they were able to mitigate the leak and clean up the fuel that had leaked on to the roadway. Safety Patrol remained on scene until a local tow company arrived.
