In 1994, Bill Clinton signed a Presidential Proclamation designating the second week of April as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. Each year the week is used to celebrate and thank telecommunications personnel across the nation who serve our communities 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 5280Fire visited with the Denver Fire dispatch team on April 17th, 2023, at the Denver 911 Communications Center, 12025 E. 45th Ave Denver is one of the few cities in Colorado that use full time firefighters in dispatch. Currently there are 18 firefighters working in dispatch. Like their counterparts at local stations, the dispatch team works 24 hours and then has two days off. They handle about 400 calls a day. The 911 Communications Center also houses police dispatchers, EMS dispatchers and 911 call takers.
