West Metro Warehouse Fire

On June 10th, 2023 at 07:19 Jeffcom dispatched West Metro Fire Rescue Engine 1 to an outside smoke investigation in area of W. 11th Ave. & Depew Court in Lakewood. Medic 11 coming back from a call arrived to a working fire with smoke from the attic area at W. 13th Ave. & Benton St. as was Denver Engine 20 which was in the area also and arrived to assist. Engine 1 arrived to active fire showing in the attic of a single-story abandoned warehouse and pulled an extended reach lay and secured their own water supply. District 1 arrived and took over command and assigned Engine 2 with a 2nd water supply to Engine 3 and assisted with fire attack. Tower 2 arrived and started entry access with Engine 16 around the building with brining fences down. Engine 16 pulled a 2nd line off Engine 3 for fire attack and Tower 2 checked for extension into a 2nd exposure building and also checked the primary search. Medic 11 set-up with medical. There was a partial roof collapse of the building and Tower 2 started aerial master stream ops with defensive operations. The fire was put under control at 08:14. The abandoned warehouse is reported to be frequented by people experiencing homelessness. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.
