North Metro Structure Fire

At 09:46 on August 12th, 2023 North Metro Fire Rescue District with Thornton Fire Department, Westminster Fire Department & Federal Heights Fire Department responded to a reported house on fire with possible explosions in the 9700 block of Fred Drive in Northglenn. Battalion 62 enroute advised dispatch of a large plume of smoke in air from W. 104th Ave. & Huron St. Northglenn Police officers arrived to heavy fire and started evacuations of the home and the neighboring homes. Engine 72 arrived on scene to a small single-story single-family with a working fire from the garage, pulled a 1 3/4 for fire attack and the primary search with Medic 72. Engine 41 secured the water supply to Engine 72 and Battalion 62 arrived and assumed command on the Alpha side in the offensive strategy. Crews worked heavy fire conditions that extended into living space of the home and Engine 2 pulled a 2nd line off Engine 72 and Medic 63 assigned as rehab. Firefighters were able to extinguished the fire and started overhaul and the investigation. The fire began outside near the unattached garage, and nearby propane tanks caught on fire causing the explosion. The fire caused damage to both the resident’s home and a neighboring home. Two residents were medically assessed and cleared on scene, and one resident was transported with non-life threatening injuries for further evaluation.
