West Metro Garage Fire

On April 27th, 2023 at 04:15 West Metro Fire Rescue and Arvada Fire Protection District responded to a possible structure fire in the area of westbound I-70 at W. 32nd Ave. as drivers on I-70 called 911 as flames and smoke were very visible from the highway. Engine 5 enroute advised that smoke and flames showing and Jeffcom updated the address to the 2500 block of Alkire St. in unincorporated Jefferson County and law on scene reporting possible explosions. Engine 5 arrived to a two-story residential with a working fire and a fully involved detached garage on the Charlie side and threatening the home nearby, pulled a 2 1/2 for fire attack with defensive on the garage and offensive on the residential structure. Engine 17 established the water supply at W. 26th Ave. and Alkire St. to Engine 5. Medic 17 arrived and assigned to pulled a 2nd line off Engine 5 to the garage and Tower 2 pulled a 3rd line in to the Alpha side of the residential structure for fire control and primary search. The fire also extended into the attic of the home. Radiant heat from the fire damaged the home’s siding and compromised the roof. Battalion 52 arrived and assumed command on Alpha side. Truck 54 arrived and assigned to the Charlie side for a fence, tree and for a small grass fire. The residents escaped without injury. Crews also worked two vehicles on fire as the roof of the garage collapsed. One firefighter had minor injuries and was treated on scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
