Boulder County Prospect Road Fire
On July 28th, 2024 just before 14:00 Boulder County Communications (1800) dispatched Mountain View Fire Rescue and Boulder Rural Fire Rescue to a possible structure fire on Prospect Rd. just east of Hwy. 287. When crews got to the scene they found a covered cistern structure which caught fire and the flames spread to a large haystack. The fire then moved east into a grassy area and burned about 5 acres. This property is a disused farm that at one point had livestock, part of the corrals for the animals did burn in this as well. This property is now owned by Boulder County Parks and Open Space. Crews go the fire under control but the haystack area continued to burn for some time and firefighters created a buffer around the area.
