Brighton Big Boy Breakfast
The City of Brighton held a watch party at their historic train depot on October 23rd, 2024 to watch Union Pacific’s Big Boy train pass through town during its journey from Denver to Greeley. Brighton Fire Rescue District provided a pancake breakfast.
UP’s Big boy 4014 was delivered to Union Pacific in 1941 and was in service until 1961, having traveled 1,031,205 miles. The locomotive is now part of the Railroad’s “Heart of America Tour” traveling through nine states. Big Boy is the world’s largest operating steam locomotive. Twenty-five were built during World War II. No. 4014 is the only one still in operation.
