Byers Structure Fire

At 12:51 June 23rd, 2024 a party stopped by Byers Fire Protection District Station 71 and reported a possible structure fire in the area of 3rd St. and Sherman St. in Byers. Shortly thereafter several 911 calls were received reporting a residential structure fire in the 300 block of S. Sherman St. so the I-70 corridor structure fire matrix was dispatched. First arriving Chief 71 reported a small wood-frame residential structure with smoke and fire showing from the Alpha-Delta corner. Additional size up revealed an exterior fire on a small deck that was starting to extend onto the structure. No parties were home at the time of the fire. One attack line was pulled to the Alpha-Delta corner by Byers personnel, and a 2nd attack line through the front door by Quint 81. The fire was quickly brought under control with minimal extension into the residence. The attic space was also opened up and was clear. One cat was found in good condition. Medic 41 was assigned medical and evaluated two bystanders for minor smoke inhalation. Chief 81 was assigned to investigations and an Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office investigator was requested as well. The fire remains under active investigation at this time.
