
Morrison Highway 8 Vegetation Fire
West Metro Turkey Creek Fire
On July 31st, 2024 at 14:42 Jeffcom dispatched West Metro Fire Rescue to a reported smoke investigation behind the Fort Restaurant, 19192 Hwy. 8. Brush Engine 11 arrived to a confirmed vegetation fire off Turkey Creek Rd. burning in light fuels and pulled two lines in for fire attack and requested to upgrade the call to a confirmed vegetation response. District 3 arrived and assumed command with progressive fire attack. Engine 13 arrived with the water supply and Brush 13 started working on fire attack. Brush 5 assigned to assist Brush Engine 11 with fire attack. Engine 9 supplied Brush Engine 11 with the water supply. Firefighters got the fire under control which burned about 3 acres in mostly grass and oak brush and away from structures. Crews worked on overhaul with hotspots for several hours before going back in service. The fire was caused by a bird that was electrocuted by overhead power lines, caught on fire and fell to the ground where it ignited the grass and brush below.
