2nd Alarm Structure Fire
At 08:10 on July 26th, 2024 the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center dispatched the Palmer Lake Fire Department and Monument Fire Protection District to the 200 block of Upper Glenway Rd. in Palmer Lake for a possible structure fire. While units were enroute, dispatch advised the caller stated the house across the street to the east was on fire and smoke was coming from the roof. Engine 2011 arrived on scene, called the incident a working fire and stretched a line interior for fire attack. Engine 513 arrived and established the water supply. At 08:27, Battalion Chief 502 assumed Upper Glenway Command and requested a 2nd alarm and updated one patient exterior and possibly 2 patients still trapped. Engine 513 cleared a primary search and advised they were able to get a knock on the fire. Command requested humane society respond for 4 cats in the home. Engine 162 arrived and setup RIT and Squrt 161 was assigned to perform a secondary search of the basement. At 09:30, all units were advised to evacuate the structure and stay clear of the building due to an unstable roof. Once the fire was called under control the scene was left to the Pikes Peak Region Fire Investigation Unit.
