On August 27th, 2024 at 17:02 Jeffcom dispatched West Metro Fire Rescue and South Metro Fire Rescue to a reported grass fire near the Denver water treatment plant on Rampart Range Rd. in Roxborough Park. Brush 15 reported the fire burning in the Denver Water’s Foothills Treatment Plant property just east of the buildings with about 2 acres in size and start a full brush response. District 3 arrived and assumed command to the wind driven fire which was spreading quickly to the west. The Douglas County’s helicopter assisted crews with several water drops. The fire burned about 35 acres and prompted voluntary evacuations for a short time. The cause of the fire was a group of birds that were electrocuted by power equipment, caught on fire and fell to the ground igniting the grass.
