On September 3rd, 2024 just after 20:00 Mountain View Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area of Weld County Rd. 38 near I-25 just outside of Mead for a report of a gas leak coming from a tank on a farm property. The first responding engine found a label on the leaking tank that stated it contained anhydrous ammonia. This created a concern and MVFR requested the Boulder County Hazmat Team to respond also to help identify the gas. The recon team entered the area to test the substance coming from the tank and found it to not be ammonia, the tank was mislabeled, and it appears that the substance was propane.
