Wheat Ridge West 38th Ave Structure Fire
West Metro Structure Fire
At 06:15 on October 1st, 2024 Jeffcom dispatched West Metro Fire Rescue and Arvada Fire Protection District to a possible structure fire in the 12100 block of W. 38th Ave. in the Wheat Ridge. Engine 17 arrived single-story residential with a vehicle on fire in a carport extending into the home and started fast attack and the primary search with Medic 17. Engine 5 secured the water supply to Engine 17. District 1 arrived and assumed command in the offensive strategy. Tower 2 arrived and assigned with ventilation and Engine 2 assisted Engine 17 with fire attack and search. Crews rescued one family cat and the fire put under control at 07:00 with an extensive overhaul. West Metro Fire investigators determined that the fire started inside the home, along a wall between the carport and the living quarters, then extended into the carport and to the vehicles parked there. The cause was most likely an electrical baseboard heater. The cat that was rescued was taken to an emergency vet by Wheat Ridge Police Department, but did not survive.
