Wheat Ridge Apartment Fire

At 17:15 on October 4th, 2019 Jeffcom 911 alerted Arvada Fire Protection District with auto-aid from West Metro Fire Rescue to multi-family structure fire with reports of smoke coming out of the windows in the 11600 block of W. 44th Ave. at the Tabor Square Apartments in Wheat Ridge. Medic 52 arrived on scene to a 2-story structure working fire with heavy smoke showing in the garden level apartment, fire showing from a 2nd story window and fire extended into the attic. Rescue 52 arrived and established a water supply with a working fire on the Alpha-Delta corner Division 1, and pulled a 1 3/4 line in for started search & rescue and fire control. Engine 17 arrived and pulled a 2nd line in for fire attack, and Tower 56 pulled a line off Rescue 52 for fire attack. Wheat Ridge Police Department closed W. 44th between Tabor St. and Robb St. for fire operations. Battalion 52 arrived and assumed command, assigned Battalion 51 as safety and crews rescued 2 dogs from inside. Engine 5 assigned to established a 2nd water supply, Engine 17 advised fire in the attic, and Tower 2 arrived and started roof ops with vertical ventilation. Medic 52 assigned as rehab. Crews got the fire under control at 17:42. 5 patients were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, smoke alarms were sounding and all occupants were evacuated when crews arrived on scene. American Red Cross was request to the scene to assist with displaced victims of the fire. The fire is being investigated for cause and origin.
