South Metro Basement Fire
Just after 14:20 on December 23rd, 2025 South Metro Fire Rescue and Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a smoke investigation inside in the 2100 block of S. Dayton St in unincorporated Arapahoe County. South Metro Emergency Communications received a single 911 call reporting black smoke inside the the home. Engine 21 upgraded the call to confirmed structure fire with smoke in the air. Engine 21 arrived to a small two-story single-family structure with a working fire and pulled 1 3/4 for fire attack and the primary search with Medic 21. Engine 21 secured their own water supply and Medic 211 was assigned to pulled a 2nd line off Engine 21. Crews found fire in the basement area of the home. Battalion 5 arrived and assumed command in the offensive strategy and assigned Engine 22 to the 2nd floor for primary search and to check the attic space. The primary searches were all clear and crews confirmed that all residents were safely evacuated. The fire was put under control quickly and crews started the overhaul. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office. Additional information provided by South Metro Fire Rescue
