West Metro Attic Fire

On April 8th, 2026 at 12:26 West Metro Fire Rescue and Arvada Fire Protection District responded to a possible structure fire in the 300 block of Howell St. in Jefferson County. Jeffcom 911 received calls from area residents, stating that smoke was seen exiting an attic vent. Engine 6 arrived to a working fire from a two-story single-family structure and pulled 1 3/4 for fire attack and secured their own water supply. Crews worked heavy fire from the first floor that extended into the attic space and through the roof from the 2nd floor. An extended overhaul operations was involved by pulling apart burned material, clearing debris, checking for hidden hot spots with thermal imaging cameras, and putting additional water on areas of concern. That work was being made more difficult by the large amount of personal belongings inside the home. Firefighters rescued two cats, but they did not survive the smoke. A dog was also recovered and did not survive the conditions inside. West Metro fire investigators determined that the fire started in the dining room of the house and the cause was electrical.
