Castle Rock E-Scooter Fire

On May 16th, 2026 at 23:03 Castle Rock Fire Rescue Department and South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a reported multi-family structure fire in the 6200 block of Castlegate Drive West with multiple 911 callers to the Douglas Regional 911 Communications Center. Castle Rock Police Department units arrived on scene and officers reported fully engulfed room on the third floor unit and not able to enter inside and began evacuations of the building. Crews arrived on scene to a large three-story structure with smoke showing from the third floor and initiated fire attack with an 1 3/4 line and the primary searched. Crews found the source of the fire with an e-scooter in the living room area in thermal runaway and removed it from the fire unit. The e-scooter was extinguished quickly and crews worked on overhaul inside the main fire unit. No injuries were reported and the battery components were safely packaged by the CRFR Hazmat team.
