Sedona Hills Wildland Fire
At approximately 14:58 on May 11th, 2026 Berthoud Fire Protection District and Loveland Fire Rescue Authority were dispatched to a reported wildland fire north of Carter Lake. While enroute, a large smoke plume was noted and the incident was upgraded to a second alarm and aircraft were requested. Upon the arrival of units, a found an estimated 30 acre fire burning toward a ridgeline in an area with light, flashy fuels was discovered. Firefighters began an evacuation of the residents in the area with the help of Law Enforcement. Fire crews were met with tough terrain for apparatus and deployed multiple hose packs to reach the ridge. Firefighters on the line worked hand in hand with aircraft to drop slurry and water, slowing the spread of the fire. Hotshots worked diligently to secure the perimeter using hand tools to dig line. The fire was mapped by the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control’s Multi-Mission Aircraft at 12.2 acres. The cause of the fire was determined to be private work on residential property and was deemed accidental by the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.
