On April 12th, 2025 at approximately 08:00 the Greeley Fire Department was dispatched by the Weld County Regional Communications Center to the 1400 block of E. 8th St. for a commercial fire. Crews arrived on scene to find a pile of metal burning at a salvage yard. With numerous hazardous materials as potential exposures crews began to work on protecting the structures and containers. Firefighters attempted to utilize relay pumping to aerial apparatus in order to douse the fire from above. However, crews had to overcome water pressure issues to complete that method. Crews were assigned defensive operations and defended structures until a loader operator was able to arrive and spread out the pile of material to attack the active fire.
