On March 22nd, 2025 at 13:00 Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Division (ESD) was dispatched to a smoke investigation on I-25 near mile marker 88. Multiple 911 callers reported smoke east of I-25 that appeared to be growing. A Red Flag Warning was in place for all of Pueblo County on Saturday with high winds and low relative humidity. As the staffed brush truck was enroute they were able to see smoke from the Pueblo West/Lake Pueblo area and requested mutual-aid from Beulah Fire Fire Protection District and Ambulance District and Rye Fire Protection District. Within a few minutes an entire county wide wildland strike team was requested as it was determined there were two separate fires burning. Due to the location of the fire and its proximity to the railroad tracks access was tough to find. A south division and north division were created for the two separate fires and crews began fire attack. Additional help was requested out of El Paso county, bringing two type 6 trucks and an additional tender. Fire crews were on scene of the fire for over 7 hours and were able to get it contained. The fire was placed in monitor status throughout the night and crews along with a Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control mod crew are on scene today finishing any additional mop up of the fire. The estimated area burned was just 200 acres between the two fires. Additional story & information provided by Code 4 Photography
