Recycling Pile / Vehicle Fire

On July 24th, 2026 at 15:54 Adams County Fire Rescue South Adams County Fire Department and North Metro Fire Rescue District responded to reported electrical fire in the 5300 block of Washington St. Medic 13 arrived to the back of the recycling plant with several vehicles fully involved and Engine 13 secured their own water supply and deployed their deck gun and pulled a 2 1/2 for fire attack. Battalion 11 arrived and assumed command in the offensive strategy and requested a major incident tone. Truck 11 and Truck 23 started master stream operations on the fire which prevented the fire from spreading to any structures, while equipment handlers are disassembling the pile. The fire was put under control at 16:28 and crews worked on an extended overhaul on hot spots. The fire originated in the engine compartment of a large piece of machinery and spread to a recycling pile, including crushed vehicles. No injures were reported and the exact cause of the fire is being investigated but investigators believe the fire originated in a large piece of machinery and spread to a recycling pile.
