On July 14th, 2026 Arvada Fire Protection District Battalion Chief John Simpson retired after 40 years of dedicated service. Friends, family and fellow firefighters gathered at Station 53 to honor the 40 year career of and to celebrate his career and his retirement. Simpson started his career at the Rocky Flats Fire Department in 1990 and served for 10 years, rising to the rank of Captain and joined Arvada Fire as a volunteer in 1986 and hired in 2000 as career and becoming one of the first ever Battalion Chief for the department. He also spent two decades serving on the Board of Directors for the Adams Jefferson County Hazardous Response Authority. He was also one of the leaders for “Operation Santa” at Station 52. Every Christmas Eve, you could find Chief Simpson with Santa’s coat and hat on driving the Old Dodge to deliver presents to needing families.
