On January 2nd, 2026 around 16:30 Boulder Police & Fire Communications dispatched Boulder Fire-Rescue Department and Falck to respond to reports of a structure fire at 4827 Thunderbird Drive at the Flatiron View Apartments. Battalion 143 reported smoke in the air and requested to fill the box. Engine 144 arrived to a large multi-family apartment complex with smoke showing and evacuations and pulled a line in for fire attack to the 2nd floor and secured their own water supply. Battalion 143 arrived and assumed command in the offensive strategy and to strike a 2nd alarm. Engine 142 arrived and assigned to the primary search in the main fire unit and Truck 147 to the 3rd floor to check for extension. Tower 141 went to the roof and Engine 143 pulled a 2nd line off Engine 144. All searches were clear and the fire was put under control quickly. One patient was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation. About 20 units were evacuated and four occupants were displaced as a result of damage. American Red Cross was called to aid. The unit on fire sustained fire, smoke, and water damage while other units had minor smoke damage. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
