Boulder Fire-Rescue Department (BFRD), founded in 1875 and covering 27 square miles in Boulder County (Colorado) including the areas of Arapahoe Ridge, Baseline, Bear Creek Ditch, Bear Mountain, Boulder County Fairgrounds, Boulder Creek, Boulder Municipal Airport, Boulder Valley, Carpenter, Chautauqua, Dakota Ridge, Dellwood, Devil’s Thumb, Fairview, Fiske Planetarium, Flagstaff, Floral Park, Frasier Meadows, Chautauqua, Glenwood Grove, Greenbriar, Gunbarrel, Keewayden, Kohler, Highland Park, Interurban Park, Keewayden, Kohler Mesa, Leanin’ Tree, Lower Arapahoe, Mapleton Hill, Martin Acres, Maxwell Park, Meadow Glen, Melody Heights, National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), Newlands, Noble Park, North Broadway, Park East, Parkside, Pearl Street Mall, Rolling Hill, Sale Lake, Scott Carpenter Park, Shanahan, Shanahan Ridge, Skunk Canyon, Sombrero Ranch, Stony Hull, Table Mesa, Tantra Park, University Hill, University of Colorado, Valmont, Valmont City Park, Whittier, Wildwood, Williams Village, Winding Trail, Wonderland Hills & Wonderland Lake. The Boulder Hook & Ladder Company No. 1 was organized in 1875, fire equipment was pulled by hand. In 1877 the A.J. Macky Hose Company No. 2 was formed, East Boulder Hose Company No. 3 in 1878 and Highland Hose Company in 1878. By 1898, horses pulled the department’s four-hose companies. By 1913, all equipment was mechanized. Boulder Fire Department was formally established in 1915 and changed to paid status when the last of the volunteer companies in the city disbanded. North St. Vrain Volunteer Fire Department joined the district on a unknown date, located at 840 16th St.
Boulder Fire-Rescue Department has automatic-aid/or mutual-aid agreements with Boulder Rural Fire Rescue, Hygiene Fire Protection District, Lafayette Fire Department, Longmont Fire Department, Louisville Fire Protection District and Mountain View Fire Rescue.
Boulder Fire-Rescue District is part of Boulder County Hazmat Authority.
In late of 2024 Boulder Fire-Rescue Department changed from the 2500 number series to the 100 number series.
