On January 3rd, 2026 Denver Fire Department firefighters continued fighting the defensive commercial structure fire on Leetsdale Drive at the Harker Heights, a large 283 unit apartment building under construction set to open in May of 2026. Crews worked throughout the night into the day with hot spots and for several days. The fire was reported on January 2nd, 2026 at 18:42. Denver has not had a 5th alarm fire since 1984 when the University Hills Mall burned. Before that one here are a few of Denver Fire largest fires: Denver Glendale 3rd Alarm in 2013, Denver East Virginia Ave 3rd Alarm Fire) in 2020, Denver North Emerson Street 4th Alarm in 2018 and one of the biggest fires may have been the Stapleton International Airport Fuel Farm Fire, a 55 hour battle which started on November 25th, 1990 until December 3rd, 1990.
