After a voter approved ballot measure in 2024, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Wildland Fire Management Program is taking shape. The measure approved the purchase of equipment and the hiring of 37 team members to assist with suppression, mitigation and prevention efforts. The suppression team is now occupying the old Morrison Police Department Building at 321 Hwy. 8 in Morison and should have 26 firefighters when fully staffed. The team has two type six brush trucks and a nine person hand crew. The team takes a comprehensive, county-wide approach to wildfire management to protect the residents of Jefferson County from catastrophic wildfire threats. The Wildland Fire Management is part of the Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management (OEM). The Jeffco OEM stewards the county’s emergency management responsibilities as well as other public safety functions within the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
